Principal Team's Message

Term 3 is always a very busy part of the year. With the commencement of the second semester, students change over to their new subjects/ units and have continued to exhibit our school values and make the most of their learning opportunities. 

In the Junior and Middle Schools, students have participated in a range of additional learning experiences including presentations from the Pat Cronin Foundation. Students found these sessions very worthwhile and will be provided with additional resources in Pastoral Care sessions following the workshop that took place. 

The importance of attendance and modelling our school values continues to be emphasised across the College. Students in the junior school have been participating in cohort-wide competitions to reward all students who are ‘living our school values’. 

Term 3 has been an extremely busy and eventful term, with our Year 9 students participating in their Naarm Experiences, alongside Year 10 subject selection planning and course counselling.

We would like to thank all of our Year 9 students who have participated in the Naarm Experiences and consistently modelled our school values while representing the College. It has been wonderful to hear about your experiences, the learning you have gained, and the positive way you have represented our school in the wider community.

As Term 3 draws to a close, it is important that we continue to emphasise the importance of regular attendance at school. Term 4 is a crucial assessment and reporting term, and we want to ensure all students are ready to learn from the beginning of each day and arrive at every class on time. Being present, prepared and punctual allows students to make the best possible use of the learning time available and finish the year strongly.

We thank families for continuing to support the school’s Traffic Management Plan. Parents and carers are reminded that student drop-off and pick-up should occur beyond the school gates, helping us maintain a safe environment for students, staff, buses and pedestrians. We acknowledge that traffic around Sunbury College can be busy at these times and appreciate families planning ahead. We would also like to recognise the many students who are doing the right thing at the end of the day by leaving the school grounds via the designated pedestrian crossings and underpass.

At the beginning of the term, the school invested in six new soccer goals for the front oval, and it has been fantastic to see these being well used. Thank you to our students for continuing to use and look after this equipment as intended. Parents and carers are also encouraged to regularly monitor their child’s Out of Class Log through Compass. This records occasions when students leave class to visit the toilet, get a drink or access their locker. Reviewing this information can provide a useful opportunity to discuss patterns, set goals and reinforce the importance of remaining in class and maintaining focus on learning.

Finally, thank you to the parents and carers who attended our Parent Student Teacher Conferences on 15 September. The conferences were again very well supported and provided an important opportunity for students, families and teachers to discuss progress, receive feedback and identify clear next steps for learning.
