SSV Eureka Year 7 & 8 Cricket

On Tuesday 14th October BHS took 3 teams (Year 8 Boys, Year 7 Boys, Year 7 Girls) to the SSV Eureka Year 7 & 8 Cricket at Vic Park.

The Year 8 Boys had 2 matches against Phoenix Secondary College (1 wicket-26 runs v 3-25) & Beaufort Secondary College (4-54 v 5-46). 2 wins meant the Year 8 Boys had won the competition.

The Year 7 Boys also had 2 matches against Phoenix Secondary College (3-16 v 10-15) & Mount Clear College (0-73 v 7-28). 2 wins meant the Year 7 Boys had won the competition.

The Year 7 girls team played a modified version of cricket called Super8’s which allowed them all the opportunity to bat, bowl and wicket keep.

They played 2 matches against

Mount Clear College (4-35 v 1-64) and

Beaufort Secondary College (3-27 v 1-69).

Unfortunately, they were comprehensively beaten by much more experienced teams. Coach Rob Simmonds indicated putting the result aside all the girls had a great time experiencing all the elements of cricket.

The Year 8 Boys team have now qualified for the SSV Greater Western Region event on Tuesday 28th October at Vic Park

The school had 9 students competing in individual events, along with 5 other students who were part of 2 relay teams the school had qualified.

The weather conditions early were very challenging with a lot of rain and wind only for the afternoon session to be still and sunny for an all-weather experience for the students.

SSV Eureka Year 7 & 8 Tennis

On Tuesday 20th October BHS took 4 teams (Year 8 Boys, Year 8 Girls, Year 7 Boys, Year 7 Girls) to the SSV Eureka Year 7 & 8 Tennis at the Ballarat Regional Tennis Centre.

The day started off with a bit of drizzle but ended up with wonderful sunshine by the end.

The Year 8 Boys had 2 matches against

Phoenix Secondary College (6sets-36games v 0-1) & Beaufort Secondary College (6-36 v 0-0).

2 wins meant the Year 8 Boys had won the competition.

The Year 7 Boys had 3 matches against Phoenix Secondary College A (2-23 v 4-30), Phoenix Secondary College B (4-27 v 2-20) & Mount Clear College (3-22 v 3-18). 2 wins and 1 loss meant the Year 7 Boys had finished the competition in 2nd place.

The Year 7 Girls team only had 1 match against Mount Clear College who ended up being a quality and pleasant opponent to our significantly less experience team. The team went down 0-0 to 6-36 but had a great experience at their first tennis competition. The team finished in 2nd place for the competition.

Finally, the Year 8 Girls had 3 matches against Beaufort Secondary College (1-19 to 5-34), Phoenix Secondary College (1-11 to 5-27) and Mount Clear College (0-6 to 6-28).

SSV Eureka Intermediate Boys Futsal

On Friday 24th October, BHS took our Intermediate Boys Futsal team to the SSV Eureka Intermediate Futsal competition at Ballarat High School.

The day was a BHS student free day, so we appreciated students coming on their day off to compete for the school! Having won the past couple of years in the Eureka Futsal there was strong confidence amongst the team before the first kick off.

The Intermediate Boys competition had 12 teams broken into 3 pools for Pool Play followed by a final’s series. The BHS team drew -

Pool A alongside

Beaufort Secondary College A (10-0),

Phoenix Secondary College A (4-0),

Woodman's Hill Secondary College B (8-0).

Pool B

Mount Clear College A,

Beaufort Secondary College A,

Mount Rowan Secondary College,

Daylesford Secondary College B.

Pool C

Mount Clear College B,

Daylesford Secondary College A,

Phoenix Secondary College B,

Woodman’s Hill Secondary College

A made up the other pools. 3 wins secured the team a place in the Semi Finals and a rematch against Phoenix Secondary College A which went the same way as the pool play match with a 4-0 victory to book a place in the Grand Final against Mount Rowan Secondary College who had been putting big victories on the board as well. The BHS team showed its team depth to win the match convincingly 5-1 to be declared the Eureka Champions for 2025. The 4th victory in a row for some of these students.

Students involved

Intermediate Boys: Macval Agugo, Neto Agugo, Hugh Compton, Josh Gibbs

Coach: Rob Simmonds
