Year 2 News

Year 2 students have had a great start to the year!

The Year 2 students have enjoyed participating in many of our wonderful learning programs.

In Religion, students are exploring and investigating the Creation story and the significance of the Church’s teachings in caring for the environment. They are reflecting on their role in the Catholic community and how they can care for God's Creation. Students will examine aspects of Lent and Holy Week and the importance of these in the Catholic faith.

In Literacy, students are working in Literacy groups to develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Students are working independently, in group situations and in focused sessions with a teacher. They are enjoying a range of different texts practising reading strategies such as fluency and monitoring meaning by re-reading and self-correcting. Students are creating interesting sentences about the stories they are reading.

In Maths, students are developing their counting skills by 2s, 5s and 10s. They are working with 2 and 3 digit numbers and partitioning them into hundreds, tens and ones. Students are learning to tell the time on a digital and analogue clock. It would be wonderful if families could help their child to tell the time on an analogue clock.

In Inquiry students are investigating and exploring how our school and church has changed over time and why its history is important to celebrate. They are asking historical questions to investigate the past and sequence significant events in the past and in chronological order. Students will use photos, images and listen to stories to gather information about the past and present.
