Road Safety Reminder for Our School Community

We have recently received concerns from local residents about some unsafe behaviours during school drop-off and pick-up times. The streets around our school become very busy at these times, and it is important that we all work together to keep our students, families and neighbours safe.

Please take a moment to review these important safety reminders:

Use the school crossing on Corrigan Road When crossing Corrigan Road, families must use the school crossing. Our crossing supervisor, Edgar, is there to help our students and families cross the road safely each day. Please support Edgar by waiting for him to stop traffic and guide you across.

Do not encourage children to run across the road We have noticed some students running between parked cars or crossing suddenly between moving vehicles. This is extremely dangerous as drivers often cannot see children until it is too late.

Hold your child’s hand For safety, children should have an adult holding their hand when crossing roads, walking through car parks, and on busy footpaths until they are at least 8–10 years old. Children under 10 often do not yet have the judgement to accurately assess the speed, distance and direction of traffic, so close supervision is essential.

Be mindful of parked cars Children weaving between parked cars can be very difficult for drivers to see. Please encourage your child to always cross where they are clearly visible.

Respect our neighbours Please ensure you do not block residents’ driveways when stopping or parking. Our neighbours are very supportive of the school community, and we appreciate your help in showing them the same respect.

Drive slowly and stay alert Always drive slowly around the school and remain alert for children who may step out unexpectedly.

The safety of our students and community is everyone’s responsibility. Thank you for helping us create a safe environment for all members of our school community. 🚸
