Hot Potato Band Performance

This week in music we had the 'Hot Potato Band' come into the school to perform for our Year seven and eight students. The performance was a great, immersive experience for everyone that was able to watch it. They played songs on brass and percussion instruments, such as the drums, saxophone, and the trumpet. All of these are instruments that students are able to learn through the school's instrumental music program!

Year 7 Music Trials

On Monday, we had our year seven music trials, where the year sevens and eights in Ricketts and Beckett house were introduced to all the musical instruments they are able to have lessons for within the music programme. The students saw demonstrations of the instruments, were able to hold them, and able to play them to get a feel of if they would be interested in learning them. The day was a very fun, hands on approach to learning about instruments. We are looking forward to running the same event with the year seven Waratah and Southern students at the start of term 2!

Visual Arts

Creativity in action!

Year 8D students recently explored Abstract Expressionism through a PBL learning task in Create Visual. Inspired by artists Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock, Emily Kame Kngwarreye and Tony Tuckson, students created their own expressive paintings experimenting with colour, gesture and energetic mark-making.

It was wonderful to see students confidently exploring new techniques and responding creatively to influential artists. T

Drama

Rock of Ages

Rehearsals are well and truly underway for our 2026 College Production: Rock of Ages! (running from 21-23 August). Our students have been very hard at work this week with the show’s musical director Ms Saunders, learning all the complicated harmonies that go into a show like this.

Theatre Studies, medieval theatre

This week, our very talented Theatre Studies students began their second area of study: Medieval Theatre. They began their exploration with numerous research tasks, covering everything from costume, hair, makeup, set, language and character analysis to get a well-rounded understanding of not only the style, but the history and forces that shaped it. To delve even deeper, this week our students have begun their analysis of the Medieval play ‘Everyman’ and its numerous characters. They will continue this analysis as they prepare for their next SAC.
