Chelsea Community Project

Hands on Learning students from six different schools joined forces again this year to revamp the old, tired courtyard and car parking area at the Chelsea Longbeach Anglican parish.
The community hall and courtyard are used to host ‘Matt’s Place’ one day per week. Matt’s Place is a meals program that provides an opportunity for those in the community who are homeless, lonely, or otherwise socially disadvantaged to come together to share a free hot, home-cooked, two-course meal.
Bayswater Secondary College and Narre Warren South P-12 worked on site to replace rotten weatherboards, sand and paint the side of the hall as well as construct large twin wicking beds to be used to grow herbs for the food program. Working off site Mount Eliza Secondary College built and painted 3 screening panels and 4 large planter boxes, Bittern Primary built 4 small self-watering planter boxes, McClelland Secondary College built a bathtub worm farm and Padua Mornington built 4 bench seats as well as a table.
