Learning in Prep!

Our wonderful Preps have been flying high with UFLI! UFLI is a structured phonics program that helps students learn how sounds and letters work together so they can read and write with confidence. Our sound wall is now proudly set up in the classroom and is already becoming an exciting learning space for our students.

The idea behind the sound wall is that students focus on sounds first (phonemes) and then connect them to letters or spellings (graphemes) as they learn them. This helps students understand how words are built and supports them as they grow into strong readers and writers. Our Preps are already beginning to segment and blend sounds, as well as read and write simple words, which is a wonderful start to their reading and writing journey.

Alongside this, we have been steadily focusing on letter formation and the students are working hard to form their letters correctly. It has also been fantastic to hear their articulation improving as they carefully practise saying and identifying different sounds.

We are so proud of the effort and excitement they bring to their learning every day. Our Preps are shining brightly as they begin their reading and writing journey, they’re truly little superstars in the making!
