Homework at COHR

Thank you to families who shared their thoughts on homework at the end of 2025.

Overall, parents value homework as a way to reinforce classroom learning, build responsibility, and strengthen literacy and numeracy skills. Most families support homework, with 10–20 minutes per day seen as appropriate in the junior levels and 15-30 minutes per day in the senior levels.

Parents particularly value:

  • Daily reading
  • Structured spelling/phonics practice
  • Times tables and core Mathematical skills
  • Written work that reinforces classroom learning (not games)

Many see homework in Years 5–6 as important preparation for secondary school.

Families shared mixed views about online homework. While digital platforms help prepare students for secondary school, some families experience challenges with device access and prefer a balance between online and paper-based tasks.

Common challenges include busy after-school schedules, student fatigue, unclear instructions and inconsistency.

Thank you for your feedback. In consultation with our staff, we have reviewed our approach to homework to ensure it is clear, purposeful and supports student learning. To promote balance and consistency across the school, we have introduced the following updates:
