Year 4
Spotlight on Learning
Jericho Community
Dear Families,
Year 4 students recently had a fantastic Day at Rumbug Camp, enjoying activities such as team-building games, obstacle courses, bushwalking, orienteering, and the zipline and flying fox. Next week, all students are looking forward to Athletics Day, where they will participate in fun sporting events that celebrate effort, teamwork, and participation. Our swimming program will also begin next Tuesday, giving students the opportunity to develop water safety skills, confidence, and stroke technique in a supportive environment.

Religious Education
In Religious Education, students have been learning that Scripture helps us understand the dignity of every human person. We discussed how each person is created and loved by God, and how we can respond to God’s love by showing kindness, respect and care for others through our actions.
English
In English, students have been developing their reading and writing skills. They have been improving their handwriting and typing accuracy, while strengthening their grammar by adding adjectives, adverbs and more interesting verbs to their sentences. Using our class text How Was That Built?, students have practised reading fluently and responding to questions. They have also begun learning about explanation texts, identifying their purpose and structure and planning an introduction for their own writing.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, students have been exploring number patterns and place value. They have been learning to identify and continue number sequences involving multiples of 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9. Students have also been developing their understanding of multiplying and dividing numbers by powers of 10, helping them recognise how digits change place value when numbers become larger or smaller.
Integrated Studies
In Integrated Studies, students have been exploring new ideas and building their understanding through discussion, research and collaborative activities. They have been developing their inquiry skills by asking questions, sharing ideas and making connections between different areas of learning. This helps students deepen their understanding of the topic while working together and thinking critically.
Social Emotional Learning
In Social Emotional Learning, students have been learning about respect, human rights and Aboriginal culture. Through stories written by Aboriginal authors, students explored different perspectives and reflected on the importance of listening to and valuing Aboriginal voices. They also learned about the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, discussing why human rights are important for ensuring people are treated with dignity and respect.
Auslan
In Auslan, Year 4 students are learning to communicate using basic signs and simple sentences. They are practising greetings, questions, and classroom instructions, as well as exploring how facial expressions and body language help convey meaning.

Congratulations to all of our award winners for week 6!
