Foundation News
We are halfway through the Term already and our gorgeous Foundation children are preparing for full time school life!
Specialists
We had the pleasure of observing a Specialist Lesson this week and were so impressed with the children as they discussed high and low friction, the different surfaces, and how much friction each one has.

Home Reading and check in days
Thank you for taking the time to read to your child at home and jotting this down in your child’s reading diary. We have started our ‘Check Ins’ with the students on their day. (On the front of the clear folder you will see a sticker indicating your child’s check in day.) We are having a quick look at their diaries and practicing some letter formation.
Last week, the students received a keyring in their reading folder. The keyring has a picture of Maggie Mouse, and we have now also added Sammy Seal.
We are beginning to look at letters and the sounds they make. Each time a new character is introduced, we will add it to the children’s keyrings. Please keep the keyring in the clear reading folder so that it is at school each day.
Once we have learnt a few more letters, you can use these little cards to make and read simple words at home.
To support your child, we have some suggested activities you might find helpful:
- Talk about the letter and the sound it makes.
- Discuss what your mouth does when making that sound (this supports articulation).
- Think of words they know that begin with that sound.
- Complete the handwriting page in their diary for the letter of the week.
- Practise writing the letter.
- Sing nursery rhymes.
- Come up with rhyming word pairs.
- Practise segmenting sounds in simple words (for example, cat – c-a-t).
Mathematics
In Mathematics, we are completing our topic on ‘Time’. We have been saying the days of the week and discussing which days are weekdays and weekends.
We will now move on to Place Value and counting, which will include recognising numbers to 10.
Dates to add to your calendar
Fete 21st March– The children are working hard on learning their song and dance moves for their fete performance. We are super excited and will let you know our allocated time closer to the date!!
Teddy Bears Picnic – 24th of March – On this day the students bring their favourite teddy to school which we take on a picnic to Mivo Park. Information will be sent home regarding this on PAM next week.
Thank you for a wonderful first few weeks of school and for supporting your child on their school journey.
