Parenting Resource: Building Resilient Kids
We know that supporting children to become confident, capable and resilient learners is a shared goal between home and school. This fortnight we’re sharing two thoughtful articles to support you in building your child's resilience and independence at home, school and within the community.
First, an article from Connected Parenting titled “Let Them Lose at Uno: Why ‘Doing Less’ Builds Kids Who Can Do More” explores how allowing children to experience small challenges- like losing a game or working through frustration- can strengthen their confidence, emotional regulation and problem-solving skills.
We also recommend a helpful piece from Triple P International titled “Resilient Children Cope Better”, which highlights practical strategies for supporting children to bounce back from setbacks, develop positive thinking and manage big feelings.
Families may also be interested to know that parents can enrol in Triple P parenting courses to further build their confidence and skills in supporting their children. These programs are offered free to all Australian parents through government subsidy and are available in a range of flexible formats.
Both articles and courses offer practical, encouraging ideas to help your child grow stronger and more resilient each day. We hope you find them helpful.
