Problem of the Week

By Trudy Gau

Last week's winners will be announced at assembly on Monday.

Mild:

I have three sets of coloured textas. Move some textas so each set has the same number. But there is a rule… You can only move textas from one set and each set needs to end up with different colour textas. Which set will textas move from and where will they go? Draw a picture to show the 3 new sets

                                                 Set A                         Set B                    Set C

Medium:

How many triangles are there?

Spicy:

In this square, the sum of the 3 numbers in each row, column and major diagonal is always the same. Find the value of 𝑥.

Extra Spicy - this was a question on this week's Maths Olympiad paper - we did not get anyone who got it correct - I dare you to give it a go :)

The letters in the word BAT can be arranged in 6 different ways.

The letters in the word BEE can be arranged in 3 different ways.

In how many different ways can the letters in the word COCOA be arranged?
