Teaching and Learning at SEPS

Supporting Every Student to Thrive

At Sandringham East Primary School, we are continually working to ensure that every student has the opportunity to thrive through high-quality teaching and learning. This term, I’ll be sharing the work our dedicated teachers are doing to embed evidence-based teaching practices that have the greatest impact on student learning.

Last year, the Department of Education introduced the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM) 2.0—an update of the original VTLM 1.0. This updated model draws on the latest research about how students learn best and provides clear, practical guidance for teachers on the elements of effective teaching.

At SEPS, our teaching teams are engaging with this research to deepen their understanding of what works best in our learning spaces. We’re actively incorporating these high-impact strategies into our daily practice to support the learning needs of all students.

Over the course of the term, I’ll be highlighting one of the Elements of Learning in each newsletter. These elements are at the heart of the VTLM 2.0 and are essential for fostering confident, capable, and curious learners. I’ll explain each element and share examples of how we’re bringing it to life in our classrooms.

In the next edition, I’ll focus on how we are supporting our students to develop their ability to pay attention, stay focused, and self-regulate—skills that are vital for learning.

We’re excited about this journey and look forward to sharing more with you along the way.
