Welcome to Term 3!

What a brilliant start to Term 3! Students are straight back into our routines and learning.

100 Days of Foundation!

On Thursday, we celebrated a very special milestone – 100 Days of Foundation! The students arrived in their bright clothes, full of smiles and excitement, ready for a day of fun and learning. We began by sharing the 100 items brought from home, carefully counting them into 10 groups of 10 before placing them in zip lock bags.

Throughout the day, students enjoyed a variety of activities, including writing about their favourite part of school so far, making their own colourful 100 Days of School hats, and joining in on a special party to finish the celebration.

It was a wonderful way to reflect on all the learning and friendships we have made in our first 100 days at school. Well done Foundation students on this fantastic achievement!

Learning

Numeracy

This week in Foundation, we have been exploring teen numbers, learning how to count on from ten to make these special numbers. We have been practising comparing and ordering numbers, building our understanding of how they fit together.

We have revisited the days of the week, using “today,” “yesterday,” and “tomorrow” in our discussions to build our sense of time. In Maths, we explored the concepts of length, comparing objects to see which were long, short, or tall.

As part of our 100 Days of School celebrations, students brought in 100 items from home. We worked together to count 10 items into 10 groups, then placed them into zip lock bags, ready for our special celebration day. It was a wonderful opportunity to practise our counting skills and see 100 in action. Well done, Foundation students, and happy counting!

Literacy

This term we have started looking at '-dge' as in bridge. It has the same rule as '-ck' and '-tch' which is; at the end of a short word after a short vowel. We are still reviewing 'nk, ng, ck' and '-tch'.

Short and long vowels

We have progressed to learning long and short vowels. Short vowels say the 'sound' and long vowels say the 'name'.

Heart words

This week we have been learning the heart words 'she, he' and 'there'.

Reading and Writing

We have had such great success using Alison Lester's books 'Tessa Snaps Snakes' and 'Clive Eats Alligators' to produce our own writing. We have used the text structure from the book to make our own 'patterned writing' using our friend's names and different sentence endings.

Visual Art- please see 'Specialist Happenings' for an exciting whole school art project.

Thanks for all your support.
