Welcome to Level 3, Term 3, 2025!

Homework

Weeks 1 and 2 of Term 3, 2025 saw the Level 3 students return to school eager to resume their learning and reconnect with their friends. The Level 3 teachers have been impressed with how well all of the students have settled back into school ready for a busy Term 3.

Term 3 is an extremely busy term due to the SEPS Performance which will be held in Week 9, weekly dance lessons for the entire school (these dance lessons will be performed at the SEPS Performance), swimming for Levels 3, 4 then F, 1, 2, as well as their normal learning.

The dance lessons are being held each Monday and this dance will be performed at the SEPS school performance in Week 9 of Term 3. Each Level will be performing a different dance routine. As the weeks progress, it will be important for the children to practise their dance routine most days so that they do not forget their steps. The teachers will be assisting with this practice during the coming weeks.

Literacy

In Literacy we are continuing to learn about the Etymology of words which is the origin of how words were formed. We have been learning about the Latin word 'form' which means form/structure/shape/appearance We then explored how this word forms other words by adding prefixes and suffixes. For example, con + form = conform and re + form + ing = reforming and in + form = inform and mis + in + form + ation = misinformation. There are many other words which we formed using 'form' as the base word and adding various prefixes and suffixes. The students enjoyed exploring the difference between the meanings of the two words misinformation and disinformation

We are also revising Information Reports and spending a considerable amount of time exploring the specific language being used in Information texts. In the coming weeks, the students will be completing their own Information Report on a Season (either Winter or Summer) using specific factual language, headings, paragraphs and drawings.

Maths

In Maths, we are learning about 3D Shapes and the mathematical language associated with geometric shapes. Depending on the 3D shape, the students are learning to apply the language of edges, vertices, faces and curved surfaces in addition to recognising and naming specific 3D shapes.

Furthermore, the students have commenced learning about angles which are an applicable part of mathematical geometry. In Level 3, the students will learn about straight angles such as right angles, obtuse angles and acute angles, straight angles and reflex angles and rotational/ complete angles.  (The students will not be learning about angles in a circle in Level 3).

Inquiry

In Inquiry, the Level 3 students are learning about Celebrations and how different cultures and countries celebrate important events. People recognise important events through celebrations, commemorations and traditions around the world, including whole world celebrations like the Olympics. Students will explore a celebration by researching the history of the event, the country of origin, its importance as a celebration or commemoration, and the cultural characteristics that make it unique to that country or culture.

There will be an Expo for all Level 3 students in Week 9 of Term 3 which will celebrate the students’ learning of important events. They will write their own Power Point Presentation, present a booklet as well as building/ creating/ drawing the actual celebration. Students will also have the opportunity to wear different cultural clothes of significance associated with their chosen celebration.

GEM Chat - In the classroom, we have been discussing resilience and what that looks like and how they might feel when becoming resilient.
