FISAF National Aerobics Championships

Good luck to Ms Woods, Ms Lange and the LC Diamonds, LC Divas, LC Dream, LC Funk and LC Gems aerobics teams who are heading up to the Gold Coast to compete in the National Championships.

Our teams have been training hard for months and cannot wait to get there. There is a fantastic video currently featured on Loreto’s social media from a practice run held two weeks ago. The teams were able to perform on Loreto’s Performing Arts stage with a huge number of friends, family members and staff in attendance.

Our junior school teams will be competing on Saturday, and we will share results in the next newsletter.

Good luck, everyone!

AFLW

Thanks to coach Hallie who is off to Canada this week and will miss the final two games of the season. Hallie has been helping Ms Dottore at training and also looking after the team at games this winter. It has been great to see the team improve each week. Hopefully we can celebrate another couple of wins in our final two matches.

Buzzer Beater

noun

Netball

A shot scored just as the clock expires at the end of a period of play, especially one at the end of a game resulting in a win for the shooter's team.

Arguably the most famous goal in Australian netball history was by Sharelle McMahon whose last second shot delivered Australia a thrilling 42-41 win over New Zealand in the 1999 Netball World Cup Final.

Our own Ella C (5 Blue), playing for the Loreto Year 5 Red netball team, had a similar buzzer beating moment on the weekend.

With scores level and only seconds remaining in the game, Amelia won back possession in the midcourt. Amelia found Tiana who fed the ball to Ella inside the goal circle.

Ella shot the ball… the final siren sounded while the ball was mid-flight… it rattled around the goal ring a few times as everyone watching held their breath… then dropped!

Loreto winners by one!

Gymnastics - Chloe

Congratulations to Chloe Z (4 Gold) who competed at her first ever Junior State Gymnastics Championships last weekend. Chloe did an amazing job with her routines, securing a gold medal in Freehand, a silver medal in Hoop and another silver medal in Ball. Chloe is always working on her skills and manages to integrate cartwheels into most netball training drills!

Well done, Chloe!

Rowing – Year 6 Program

Later this term, our Year 6 classes will get a chance to experience some rowing activities during their PE lessons. If students enjoy these sessions, they can sign up for Loreto’s Year 6 “Learn To Row” Program in Term 4.

The Learn To Row program runs for six weeks in Term 4. It involves some fitness and basic skills sessions at Loreto before finishing with two introductory sessions on the water at West Lakes.

Finals Fever

Our netball teams are heading into their last minor round games this Saturday afternoon. Hopefully Adelaide’s weather will have rained itself out by then!

The Sub Junior (Year 5 and Year 6) divisions offer finals as part of their schedule. Teams that finish in the top four will qualify for the finals. Already our Yr 6 Blue, Yr 6 White and Yr 5 Red teams are guaranteed top two placings while our Yr 6 Gold team faces a tense final weekend.

The Golds need to win their final match plus rely on the fourth ranked team to lose. If that occurs, we draw level in 4th place and the finals spot will come down to percentage. Good luck, girls! Regardless of Saturday’s result, it has been an excellent season in a very strong division. Now… junior sport is about having fun, being healthy and active, making friends and doing your best. Winning is just a bonus… however, I will bring a calculator along just in case anyone is interested in how the ladder finishes up.
