Educating for the Future: Our Engagement with AI
This year, we have embarked on a considered, three-phase approach to understanding and responding to the opportunities and challenges of Artificial Intelligence in education.
Phase One began earlier this term, when all staff engaged in professional learning focused on the implications of AI for teaching, learning, and assessment. These sessions allowed teachers to grapple with the practical and ethical dimensions of AI, ensuring we approach the subject with both caution and curiosity.
Phase Two, which took place last week, centred on drafting our College’s AI policy. In a series of staff workshops, we worked collaboratively to define principles and guidelines that will help us navigate this evolving landscape. These discussions highlighted the importance of balancing innovation with integrity, and of equipping students with both the technical skills and critical thinking required to use AI responsibly.
Phase Three will be about putting this policy into practice, not as a finished product but as an iterative, evolving, and responsive framework. We will trial its application across classrooms and daily school life, actively reflecting on what works, what needs refining, and where we can be bolder.
This approach reflects our commitment not only to keeping pace with technological change but also to cultivating discernment, adaptability, and agency in our learners. AI will undoubtedly continue to reshape the educational landscape; however, by engaging with it critically and collaboratively, we ensure that our staff and students are not passive recipients of change, but active participants shaping the future.
