Planets, Pearls and Possibilities – Loreto Conference 2025

This week, I was privileged to attend the Loreto Schools of Australia Conference in Sydney, a gathering of educators from across the country in this Year of Verity. Guided by the theme Planets, Pearls and Possibilities, the conference encouraged reflection on spirituality, student wellbeing, and innovation in education.

Across the three days, we listened to inspiring keynote speakers who reminded us of the importance of living authentically, supporting our young people with courage and care, and preparing them for a future full of challenges and opportunities. Sr Sandra Perrett IBVM spoke of spirituality as a guiding force for growth; Dr Judith Locke shared valuable insights into building student resilience and independence; and filmmaker Liz Courtney encouraged us to look to our students as leaders of possibility, particularly in creating a more sustainable world.

A highlight was seeing Amanda Smith and Jess Edwards invited to present some of the innovative programs from our Junior School, a true testament to the creativity and excellence of our staff. We also enjoyed exploring the beautiful Loreto Kirribilli campus and connecting with colleagues from Loreto schools across Australia.

The conference was a valuable opportunity to share ideas, strengthen our sense of community, and imagine together the future of education in the Loreto tradition.

Cracking the Case: Year 6 Forensic Science in Action

As part of the Forensic Science unit, students have been lifting and identifying fingerprints and using new skills to solve three in-house crimes. Thank you, brave scientists - the streets of Marryatville are safer because of you.

Examining blood splatters tells a story and often solves crimes. Year 6 students have investigated a variety of splatters and speculated on differences to discover what different shapes reveal.
