LANGUAGES WEEK CELEBRATION
MISS JESSICA CURTIS - LANGUAGES CURRICULUM LEADER

Our school community recently came together to celebrate Languages Week, a vibrant and engaging event that highlighted the beauty and diversity of cultures from around the world. Students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a range of traditional activities, each offering a unique insight into different languages and cultural practices.
One of the highlights of the week was Soran Bushi dancing, a lively and energetic Japanese folk dance that students thoroughly enjoyed learning. The combination of rhythm, movement, and teamwork made it an unforgettable experience for all who participated.
Creativity was on full display through activities such as origami and fan decorating, where students explored traditional Japanese art forms. From carefully folded paper creations to beautifully designed hand fans, students embraced the chance to express themselves artistically while gaining an appreciation for cultural traditions.
Another popular activity was calligraphy, where students practiced the art of elegant writing. This activity encouraged patience, focus, and attention to detail, while introducing students to the significance of written expression in different languages and cultures.
Adding a delicious element to the celebrations, students also had the opportunity to purchase Alfajores, a Peruvian biscuit. Not only was this a treat enjoyed by many, but it also allowed students to experience a taste of another culture.
Importantly, all funds raised from the biscuit sales are being donated to the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal, demonstrating our school’s ongoing commitment to supporting those in need. It was wonderful to see students embracing both the cultural and charitable aspects of the week.
A huge thank you to Ms Diana Cetina, Mrs Chiaki Green, Mr Nathan Lane and Mr Cameron Ryan for their support in running activities for students to participate in.
Languages Week was a fantastic success, providing students with meaningful opportunities to learn, celebrate diversity, and connect with cultures from around the world.
