Year 5/6

English
In English over the last few weeks we have continued to read and write a series of different styles of poems. Students have investigated different styles of poetry such as limericks, haikus and diamante poems. We have looked at different style and word choice as well as sentence structures in our language convention and writing blocks. Students have learning about different conjunctions and created complex and compound sentences. We also engaged in a reading of Luna Roo The Kangaroo Baller by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd as part of National Simultaneous Storytime on Wednesday.
Maths
During our Math block this month we have been looking at the different operations and we have used a variety of strategies and algorithms to solve addition, subtraction and multiplication sums of multi-digit numbers. Students have build their fact fluency and been practicing their multiplication times tables.
Humanities
This term, our Grade 5/6 students have loved learning about Australia and Our Asian Neighbours. They have explored a range of topics, including food production, migration, extreme weather events and the many connections between Australia and countries across Asia. It has been fantastic to see students so engaged, asking thoughtful questions and sharing their discoveries along the way.
Families are warmly invited to our Grade 5/6 Travel Expo on Wednesday 18 June, where students will have the opportunity to showcase and celebrate the hard work they have put into their Humanities learning this term. We look forward to sharing their learning journey with you!
Events
We had a number of students across 5/6 represent our school at the District and Divisional Cross Country. Well done to all students who made the next round and particularly Cash and Marlow who have advanced to the Regional Championships.
A large number of students are today representing Moriac in AFL 9s and Netball. We wish all of our students well.
On June 12th we have our Year 5/6 Market Day. This is key event on the senior school calendar as students have been planning and creating goods and services to sell to the school community. All money raised will go to Year 5 and 6 end of year activities and graduation with a portion going to the Fight MND charity. We would to thank our 5/6 families for their support in this event.
