Around the Secondary Classes

da Vinci Success

At the end of Term I, eight of our talented Year 10 students competed in the prestigious da Vinci Decathlon at Hutchins School. This challenge covers many fields, from Engineering and Mathematics to Code Breaking, Cartography, and Creative Tasks. Facing off against 11 other Year 10 teams from across Tasmania, our students did a great job. They earned top 5 results in multiple categories: 2nd place in Ideation, 4th in Code Breaking, and 5th in Creative Producers. "Ideation" where students "develop fast, innovative solutions to real-world global issues" was a particular highlight, with our team impressing the judges and finishing just one step from the top. It was a wonderful display of teamwork, creativity, and intellectual courage, and the College is proud of every student who took part.

Today, our Yrs 9 and 10 Outdoor Education students had the opportunity to hear from Dr Jorian Kippax, who spoke about remote first aid and his experiences as a medical professional working in extreme and isolated environments. Dr Kippax was instrumental in the Franklin River rescue, where he was part of a challenging and high-pressure operation in Tasmania’s remote wilderness.

The session provided students with a deeper understanding of the realities of outdoor safety and emergency response and the complexities of providing medical care in isolated settings a from conventional medical support.

Autumn Concert

Last term, our Year 9/10 Elective Music Students, the Middle Years Voices, the Senior Singers, Ceilidh Band, Pizzicato Players and the College Orchestra staged our annual Autumn Concert. A large audience was in attendance to enjoy a wonderful evening of high quality music from a range of ensembles and musical genres. Congratulations to everyone who was involved on the night. It was a joyful celebration of our students’ impressive music making in this early part of the year. You can view the concert by clicking on the following link:
