Around the Primary Classes

Kindergarten
Kindergarten has started Term 2 with great enthusiasm! We have been busy learning new sounds, counting to 10, and creating patterns. Our learning has also included exploring the seasons, with a special focus on Autumn. Through structured play opportunities, students have been encouraged to play with a variety of peers and build new friendships. It has been a wonderful start to Term 2 in Kindergarten!
Prep
Prep have enjoyed an exciting and busy start to Term 2. We have continued to learn new sounds and tricky words and are focussing on counting forwards and backwards to 20. We enjoyed preparing our gifts for our mums for Mother’s Day. We have started to learn about our 5 main senses and how they help us learn about and enjoy the world around us. Field Day has also been a highlight and we were proud of finishing our big run!
Year 1
In Year 1 students are learning about the Church and Baptism. They know that a priest has to say specific words as he is pouring Holy Water on the head of a baby. We brought this sacrament to life with some drama in the classroom. This baby has received many names and is quite holy indeed!
Year 2
Term 2 started with a bang and we hit the ground running, literally! This week Year 2 participated in Field Day with enthusiasm, encouragement and determination. We cheered for our houses, other classes and persevered during our own race.
Last week we had out ANZAC Day Liturgy and painted portaits with our mums. We spent time in class thinking about our mums, what makes them special and all the reasons we are grateful for them. We were very lucky enough to have a visit from Mrs Piesse to help us pray for our mums and learn some new songs.
Our focus topics so far this term in Maths have been time and shapes, and we have started our new science unit, Changing Materials.
Year 3
Year 3 has started the term with a strong focus on learning through fun and engaging maths games to help build our understanding of numbers and times tables. The friendly competition has motivated and inspired us to challenge ourselves and develop confidence in our learning.
We were also proud to perform our Auslan song for our mothers during the Mother’s Day Liturgy. To celebrate this special occasion, we created beautiful origami butterflies, which also helped strengthen our fine motor skills.
In Science, we are excited to begin learning about Heat and exploring how it works in our everyday lives. We are also looking forward to designing and creating our own woodwork sculptures, encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning.
Year 5 Navy
What a wonderful first week we have had in Year 5 Navy, welcoming two new classmates!
Daisy Cupit and Aminta Rutter have joined us, as we gear up for some serious learning this term combined with frequent doses of fun and creativity.
Year 5 White
It has been an incredibly productive start to Term 2 for Year 5 White, with students diving straight back into their learning with impressive focus and enthusiasm. In Mathematics, the classroom has been a hub of activity as students continue to build their understanding of fractions and skills in calculating perimeter.
In English, students have begun develop their voices in persuasive writing, learning to use powerful language and compelling arguments to sway their audience. In Science, students have been investigating the arrangement of particles in different states of matter to understand why solids, liquids, and gases behave the way they do. It is wonderful to see such a dedicated start to the term, and we look forward to seeing this momentum continue throughout the coming weeks.
Year 6 Navy
We have certainly hit the ground running in Year 6 Navy at the beginning of Term 2! Following Mrs Fazackerly commencing her maternity leave, Mrs Burrows-Cheng (Mrs BC) has enjoyed building upon the already warm classroom environment and building strong interpersonal relationships with the students. We have been attending various school events, including the Primary ANZAC Service, run by our wonderful Year 6 student leaders, the Mother's Day Liturgy and activities, and, of course, Field Day, where each girl shone and showed great camaraderie.
The classroom has been no exception to being busy, where the girls have participated in the Live Life Whole program, and a crowd favourite, MJR with Mitch, and making gifts with love and care for their mums and carers for Mother's Day. Amongst all of this, the girls have remained focused and have displayed their Year 6 eagerness to learn. As our focus shifts to our fast-approaching Canberra trip, the girls have thoroughly enjoyed taking a step back in time, transporting themselves to Australia pre-federation, and producing outstanding monologues, imagining themselves as a Tasmanian in the 1890's. We have an action-packed Term 2 ahead and can't wait to share more of it with you!
Year 6 White
Week One has been a busy and exciting start to the term for our Grade 6 students. We jumped straight into our learning, especially in HASS, where students began exploring Federation and what life was like in Colonial Australia. We wrote monologues from the perspective of people living in the 1890's in Tasmania in order to get a sense of what life was like as Australia became a nation.
We took part in another session of the Live Life Whole program, which focuses on personal development and respectful relationships. As part of this program, students participated in age-appropriate discussions around puberty and sex education, encouraging thoughtful questions, respect, and understanding in a safe and supportive environment. It has been wonderful to see students approach all learning opportunities with enthusiasm and maturity.
Year 6 - Live Life Whole
On Friday of Week 1, the entire Year 6 cohort enjoyed a half-day participating in the Live Life Whole program, run by Liz and Meg. The girls worked in their respective class groups, learning about relationships with themselves and others, the importance of setting boundaries, and the beauty of gratitude and living in the 'now'. Following their session full of reflection and meaningful conversations with their peers, the girls were treated to an energetic dance lesson in the hall, where plenty of laughter and smiles were shared among one another. It was a fulfilling day for the girls, which is sure to leave a lasting impact on all Year 6 students.
