In the final week of the term the P-2 students learnt about Buoyancy. Students explored and investigated a range of materials according to whether they would sink or float when placed in water. They used this knowledge to create a boat that would float. We finished off by testing how much weight each boat could hold. Students had lots of fun. See below. 

In the 3-4 area students finished off the term with a series of mini-STEM challenges. Student were placed into groups and had to take turns completing a task. Some of these included a balloon relay, straw and button task, MnM straw pick-up and the spaghetti ring toss etc.

In the 5-6 area students finished off their unit on Light Energy. This week we explored the terms Reflection and Refraction. Students completed a range of tests and experiments including, Newtons Colour spinner, creating a rainbow with water/mirror and CD and Spear Fishing. We learnt that when sunlight hits a raindrop, it bends/slows down and exits the raindrop in seven different colours (wave lengths), which are the colours visible in a rainbow.

This week in Auslan, we have been busy revising and building on the signs we have already learned. We have revisited colours, family names, animals, pets, greetings and emotions, helping to strengthen our confidence and recall.

We have also been extending our vocabulary by putting individual signs together into sentences to communicate our likes and dislikes. Through games and activities, students have been testing their memory of taught signs while having lots of fun along the way.

Our learning has included singing songs, playing Auslan games and reading picture storybooks, giving students opportunities to practise their signs in different and engaging ways.

We have also revisited the many ways people communicate without using their voice and discussed why it is important to recognise, respect and value the Deaf community and Auslan as a language. These conversations have helped students develop a greater understanding of communication, inclusion and the importance of celebrating different ways of communicating.

A massive congratulations to all the students on there exceptional work and enthusiasum towards Auslan this term. It has been a pleasure to see all of their efforts come together to perform their special songs for you all at the Art Expo the other week. Proud is an understatement! We hope you loved it as much as the kids loved performing for you. 

P.E NEWS

Health Lessons

In P.E. & Health lessons, students have been exploring the importance of maintaining a balanced and healthy diet and understanding how the foods we eat provide our bodies with the essential nutrients we need to grow, develop and stay healthy. 

Students have also been investigating how our digestive system works and the important role it plays in breaking down the food we eat, and how nutrients are absorbed and used by the body. They have been developing a greater understanding of how healthy food choices can support their overall health, wellbeing and energy levels.

Division Athletics

Well done to Hudson N (800m), Sully N (high jump and discus), Harvey C (1500m) and Heidi P (shot put and discus) who competed at the Division Athletics earlier this week.       They should be very proud of their efforts and achievements!

Congratulations to Harvey C, Sully N and Heidi P who have qualified to compete at the Region Athletics next Term! Harvey will compete in the 1500m, Sully will compete in high jump and discus and Heidi will compete in the shot put and discus. Well done!

NEWS FROM THE ART ROOM 

This week we were very busy making flags, banners, streamer poms poms and signs to show our support for our favourite footy teams at our Footy Colours Parade! Good luck to everybody who still has a team participating in the finals and for those who missed out, there is always next year!
