 Year 3/4 News

Literacy

In Reading, students have been exploring picture storybooks, developing their ability to make inferences and plausible predictions, while also discussing and analysing the author’s craft and the choices they make as storytellers. Students also studied different authors to learn about their life experiences and how these experiences influenced and shaped their work as writers.

In Writing, students have been researching, planning, drafting and publishing information reports on topics they are passionate about. They have been developing their skills in selecting relevant information, organising ideas and communicating their knowledge clearly to an audience.

Numeracy

Students have been developing their understanding of the decimal place value system and exploring how numbers can be represented in different ways. Students have also been exploring how common fractions can be converted into decimals and represented using place value knowledge. Through a range of activities, they have been making connections between fractions and decimals, comparing and ordering decimal numbers, and applying their understanding to solve mathematical problems in meaningful contexts.

Inquiry Unit

Students had a fantastic time on the Port of Echuca excursion, enjoying a day filled with fun, exploration and learning. They had the opportunity to discover more about the rich history of Echuca and the Murray River, learning about the important role the port played in river trade and the growth of the local community. Students explored the historic buildings, paddle steamers and wharf area while gaining a deeper understanding of what life was like in Echuca in the past.
