Last Wednesday, our school came alive with Book Week magic! Book Week is an annual national celebration of children’s literature, authors, illustrators and, most importantly, the joy of reading. It is a great opportunity for students to discover new books, let their imaginations run wild, develop a lifelong love of reading and celebrate the amazing stories and storytellers that bring books to life.

And, of course, Book Week would not be Book Week without the Book Week Parade!
There was certainly no shortage of excitement as the Preps arrived dressed as characters from their favourite books. I saw an incredible range of costumes, from much-loved storybook characters to some all-time favourites. There were superheroes, animals, magical characters and plenty of very recognisable faces wandering around the school grounds. For one morning, our school was definitely a little more magical than usual!

The Prep students embraced the spirit of Book Week with great enthusiasm. They had the opportunity to take part in a Book Week treasure hunt at school with Helen from the local Beaufort Library. The students listened carefully, searched for clues and had fun in an interactive way. There may even have been a little detective work involved!

Throughout the day the Preps also enjoyed listening to lots of fantastic stories and completing a range of fun activities connected to Book Week. We talked about characters, stories and books we love and had plenty of opportunities to share our favourite characters and explain why we like them.

Please watch our very own Book Week video!
The students were given the very important job of introducing themselves to their audience by clearly saying their name and explaining who they had dressed up as. This sounds simple enough… until you have a whole class of very excited Preps waiting for their turn in front of the camera! There was plenty of practising, remembering what to say, speaking clearly and, of course, a few moments that made us smile.
The students took their roles very seriously and were incredibly proud of themselves. They loved seeing their classmates dressed up and sharing their characters with everyone.
I hope you enjoy watching the short video as much as the Preps enjoyed making it!

A huge thank you to the families for helping make Book Week such a special occasion. I know that some costumes take a little more planning, creativity and perhaps a late-night search through the dress-up box than others! Your efforts helped make the day such a memorable experience for the Preps.
