News from One/Two

One more week to go!

A reminder that each week I send out a slideshow to families with important updates, upcoming events, and a snapshot of our learning. I’ve recently heard that some families may not be receiving these emails. The parent group uses the email addresses listed in ICON, so if you are not getting them, please let me know, and I can have your email added.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Thank you if you have already booked in to see me next week for parent-teacher interviews. If you haven't already, please do so if you are available. It will be a great opportunity to celebrate the successes of your child so far and create some new goals for the second half of the year!

Cyber safety

Earlier this week during our Cyber Safety lesson, we focused on building a stronger understanding of how to recognise when we feel safe online. Together, we discussed and shared ideas about things that might seem unusual or unsafe, such as advertisements, messages from strangers, and other unexpected online content. To support this learning, we created our own Askable Adult Puppets. These are our five trusted adults we can turn to for help if something online makes us feel uncomfortable or doesn’t seem right.

Narrative Writing

Throughout the term, we have read a range of narrative stories and learnt about the important features that make them engaging. Recently, we have begun creating our own narratives, making sure to include key elements such as characters, settings, an action, a problem, and a solution to end the story.

After completing our exciting and descriptive stories, we moved on to the editing process. Editing is a skill we have been focusing on a lot this term, and students are becoming more confident in identifying and correcting their mistakes to improve their writing.

Pattern Making

Over the past few days, we have been learning all about patterns and having lots of fun creating our own. We have been exploring repeating patterns made up of units, such as AB AB AB or ABC ABC ABC. We have also started using our skip counting knowledge to create growing patterns by 2s, 5s and 10s, which has been a great way to connect our maths learning.

Religion

This week in Inquiry, we have been learning about Reconciliation and what it means to “put things right.” We explored the story of The Prodigal Son and used it to help us understand how everyone can make mistakes, but we can always make things right again through forgiveness.

Together, we discussed our wonderings about the story and completed a sequencing activity to retell the key events in order. We also gathered for a special prayer called the Examination of Conscience, where we reflected on our own actions and thought about times we may need to say sorry or make better choices.
