News from 3/4

We have had a busy and memorable few weeks in 3/4, particularly in religious education. We celebrated Louisa receiving her First Reconciliation, Xavier celebrating his First Eucharist, our whole-school Mass for the Feast of the Sacred Heart, and our own class Mass. Alongside these special events, there has been plenty of learning and excitement happening across all areas of school life. This week, we invited the students to be our newsletter authors, and we hope you enjoy reading their contributions!

Religion

On Wednesday, I did my Reconciliation. I came with my mum, dad and my sister. We had a piece of paper to read off so we didn't forget what to say. You had to go and sit down and wait for your turn. When its your turn you get up you kneel and you walk to Father. And then you read off the piece of paper. Father will say something back. Then will say all the bad things you did and say sorry. You stand up and go to a prayer table and say a prayer, and then you walk to your family, and you go home. ~ Louisa

Maths

We have been learning about division lately, and I love maths because it is easy for me. My favourite multiplication facts are the 12 times tables and the 4 times tables.

At St Joseph’s, Year ¾ are learning about fractions. There are mixed numerals, which look like this: 5 ½. There are also improper fractions and they look like this: 7/4, and finally equivalent fractions. I’m going to do a half. ½ = 2/4 = 4/8 = 8/16 = 16/32 = 32/64 = 64/128 = 128/256 = 256/512 = 512/1024 = 1024/2048 = 2048/4096 = 4096/8192 ~ Blake

This week and last week in maths, we have been learning about fractions like one third. Soon I think we will be practising adding fractions. On Friday, we grabbed our plastic folder and whiteboard and did greater than or less than fractions. ~ Teagan

In maths year 3 and 4 learnt that when you do multiplication and division, you do not need to worry because division is just like multiplication. Example – 3x9=27 is the same as 27÷3=9. The answer is to put the missing number as the answer. ~ Alie

In multiplication we have been doing times and dividing.  We have been getting better. It's been fun, I love doing it. ~ Archer

On Wednesday, our school [not including ⅚] made squishies. First, the teachers explained it to our school. Mrs B's group was making sensory cups, Mr Foley was making rice squishies, Mrs Tranyor was making foam cubes, Miss Bourke was making fidget strings and Miss Cooper was making swirly ribbons. So we set off to our groups. I went to Mr Foley's group and made a rice squishy. I was first in line. The rice goes into the balloon, and then I asked Miss Fraser to tie it up for me. I then went and made a sensory cup and mine was pink with purple glitter and stars inside it. It was fun. ~ Aleisha
