Year 5/6 Camp to Sovereign Hill

Last week students travelled to Sovereign Hill for an immersive camp experience exploring life during the Gold Rush era. Dressed in period costumes, students stepped back in time through hands-on activities including gold panning, old-fashioned school lessons, the Red Hill Mine tour, the gold pour, and the evening Aura Light Show. The camp deepened students’ understanding of the Gold Rush and the events surrounding the Eureka Stockade.
Students particularly enjoyed the authentic experiences on offer.

“I really enjoyed shopping around in activity groups because I got to buy presents for my family members.” - Alice
“I enjoyed the costume school because it represents what it was like back then and what those children endured.” - Hayley
“I liked the Aura Light Show because it was so cool and we got to go on a train — I hadn’t done that before!” - Ernest
“I really liked writing using the copper plates style because it felt like I was in the 1850s!” - Sylvia
