Year Two Team News

with Joel, Bianca I, Zoe and Rochelle

Hello Year Two families,

It has been another busy couple of weeks in Year Two. We have fully immersed ourselves in our Inquiry unit by making delicious mugs of Milo. The students also enjoyed a hands-on Science incursion last week and it was fantastic to hear the discussions the session helped generate for our students in regard to our Inquiry unit, ‘What Are Things Made Of and Why?’ Our students loved learning about the properties of materials by getting their hands dirty and working together to complete a range of science experiments that involved mixing different materials. Students extended their understanding through further explorations, including what changes occur to the properties of wool when it is spun. We have attached some photographs from the session for you to view.

As we are about to embark on the second half of the Term and with Winter approaching, sickness tends to creep in. Therefore, it is important to take time to rest and recover when it is required. Please remind your child to bring a jumper or jacket and a water bottle to school each day.

Curriculum Focus: Weeks 7 - 8

Literacy: In Little Learners, we will continue developing our understanding of prefixes and suffixes and how these connect and change the base word. In Writing, we will continue our work on procedural texts. We will also continue exploring how adjectives can be used to create beautiful descriptions for our readers to help paint a picture in their minds.

Numeracy:  Following the completion of our unit of work on division, we will begin learning about fractions of a whole.

Inquiry: We will be continuing to explore materials, mixtures and properties through our Inquiry question ‘What Are Things Made Of, and Why?’. We will undertake some additional science experiments, exploring how the properties of materials change once added together to form a mixture.

Willy Kids and Respectful Relationships: Through the pillar of Respect, our conversations will be based on how we can be considerate Willy Kids who think about others at school, home and in the community.

Until next time,

The Grade Two Team - Joel Kitchen (2J), Bianca Italiano / Zoe Kitchen (2I) & Rochelle White (2W)
