Year 3/4 Team News
with Grace,Kayleen, Alison, Hayley, Katherine, Dianna & Christine
We have been thrilled to hear the Grade Four presentations on Healthy Bodies. They have done an excellent job with their research and modelled how to speak expressively, with good pace and volume. We are looking forward to listening to the Grade Three presentations over the coming fortnight and know that they will do a great job too.
To end our Inquiry Unit we have an incursion on Monday 15 June called ‘Ninja Warriors’. The Grade 3/4s will be examining the benefits of physical activity and fitness to health and wellbeing, by participating in an obstacle course and using giant Earth balls.
Curriculum Focus: Term 2 - Weeks 7 and 8
Literacy: In Reading, we will compare two picture story books written by the same author, noting the similarities and differences. We will also continue reading our class novel ‘Nim’s Island’ and practice reading out loud during our ‘fluency paired reading’.
In Writing, we are continuing to learn about narrative texts and their structures. Students will use a plot scaffold to work on drafting and publishing their narrative piece. Our grammar focus will be looking at synonyms, quotation marks and editing to check that students’ writing makes sense.
Numeracy: During our division unit students will learn: that division involves splitting a whole into equal groups; about the relationship between multiplication and division as inverse operations; how to use use fact families to solve multiplication and division problems; how to solve worded problems involving division; the language of division, ie dividend, divisor, and quotient; and how to use strategies like repeated subtraction and skip counting to solve division problems.
Inquiry: Our inquiry question in Term Two is ‘How can we care for our health and wellbeing?’. Students will examine the benefits of regular physical activity, including the influence on sleep, concentration and wellbeing, and identifying opportunities when they can be active at school, home and in the community. They will also investigate and apply strategies that contribute to their own and others’ health, safety, relationships and wellbeing.
Willy Kids: Term Two’s topic is ‘Willy Kids are Respectful’. Willy Kids are always respectful and think about others. We are exploring how we can show respect in a range of ways.
Respectful Relationships: In Term Two, students are looking at personal and cultural strengths. Students will describe personal and cultural strengths and identify some personal and cultural strengths they can use to respond to challenges and opportunities. They will also describe factors that contribute to positive relationships with people at school, at home and in the community.
Homework
Homework is a valuable tool in reinforcing what is being learnt at school. We want our students to think of homework as being an important activity that assists in preparation for life-long learning. All students will receive their homework at school on a Monday and it is due back at school on Friday of the same week.
Homework tasks include:
All students have a Homework Book in which they are encouraged to complete their tasks. Please contact your child’s teacher if there are any concerns or questions about the homework tasks.
A reminder that Homework Books need to be returned to school each Friday, regardless of whether or not the homework has been completed.
Upcoming dates to note:
