Visual Art

Another big week in the Art Room as we gradually grow the collection of art pieces for the Art Show in Term 4. The students have made so many amazing things that we are running out of room to store everything!

Grade Prep

This week the Prep’s have begun the first of many steps to create their own boom boxes! Does this bring back memories? The good old days of cassette tapes? We’ve started the first step where we are covering a shoe box with white paper. Thanks to everyone who have donated shoe boxes. We are a few boxes short, so Prep D will begin this process hopefully next week.

Grade 1

The Grade 1’s have put the finishing touches on their hats and are moving onto experimenting with a feathering technique. We are practising our ‘flick motion’ to create some whacky emus. I can’t wait to share these pieces with you!

Grade 2

The Grade 2’s are putting the final touches onto their 3D flies. This week we added paint pen details and I just love how they have turned out. If you look closely you can see the subtle green sparkly paint. This will look great with our cork hats that the grade 1’s made last week.

Grade 3/4

This week we are finishing up our Vegemite jars. I must say, these are looking amazing and I’ve shared a few sneak peaks with you. I can’t wait to display these!

Grade 5/6

The Grade 5/6’s continue to study their designated Australian Artist and create an art piece inspired by their artist’s style. (Pete Cromer, Ken Done, Sidney Nolan, Albert Namatjira and Mirka Mora) Some students have completed this piece and have moved onto our next major project which is to create and design their own 3D mini food truck. This activity is a popular one! To help us with this activity, we ask that students bring in empty cereal boxes or boxes that have a similar thin cardboard so we can reinforce our mini food trucks. As the students are working on their food trucks, I have been ‘gelli’ plate printing with 6 different students each week. We’ve had lots of fun creating patterns using stencils and interesting colour combinations. I will continue to do this each week until every student has had a go.

Term 3

Term 4

Grade 1/2 - Preparation for this year’s Art Show

Grade Preps - Preparation for this year’s Art Show

Art smocks

Just a reminder to bring in your Art smocks. Please hand them into your classroom teacher for storage. I recommend an old, oversized t-shirt or shirt with your child’s name on it.

We are looking for…..

To help with the creative process, we are asking for some materials that you may no longer need and would be happy to donate to the art room where we will turn them into magnificent art pieces. Some things we are looking for are old shoe boxes in good condition, old house paint brushes, newspapers, empty Cereal boxes or boxes that have a similar thin cardboard, and empty 1.5litre fizzy drink bottles (washed). The cereal boxes are the most urgent things we need at the moment. So, if you are doing a clean out and have these items can you please drop them off at the Art Room. Thanks so much for your support!

LOTE (French)

Prep – Year 2

Students have been exploring a French story featuring animals and fruits, helping them build confidence with familiar vocabulary in a fun and engaging way. Through role play, movement, and acting out different characters, students have been practising their speaking and listening skills while developing their understanding of the story. These activities have encouraged students to use French in a creative and interactive setting.

Years 5 – 6

Students have been finalising and practising their French oral presentations in preparation for assessment. They have focused on improving their pronunciation, fluency, and confidence when speaking in French. This week, students will either present their work to the class or submit an audio recording alongside their presentation. I am looking forward to seeing the effort students have put into developing their spoken French skills.

Warm regards,

Sara Borrens
