Main Campus - Year 4
Dear Lovely Year 4 Families,
We have officially hit the halfway mark of the term! Can’t believe it!
The students at the Carlsruhe campus have been busy over the last two weeks. We have had more Thursday activities, which have been a massive success. The frittata the kids made last week was amazing!! So yummy. The students continued with their quilling, weaving and drawing. The gardening group planted some parsley and made signs to match.
Thanks again to all of the parents who have put their hands up to help. Without you, we can’t do those activities, so you need to be thanked time and time again. The students get so much enjoyment out of them. Here are some comments from 4KR students on the Thursday activities:
Briar - “Activities are so fun because it makes us think outside of the box of our normal learning experience.”
Vivi - “They’re really fun and they help us learn new skills we might not have learnt before."
Florence - "They make us learn new and amazing activities. And the nice parents who help us are super helpful when we get stuck.”
Annabelle - “Activities are really fun because you get to bond with the people in your group and make new friends.”
Felix - “Activities are really fun. Cooking is the best one because it makes you learn new skills that help you when you get older.”
Remi - “Activities are really fun. I especially like cooking because you get to learn how to cook for the future. “
In English, we have been busy looking at persuasive texts and learning how to structure them. The topics have been based on the use of plastics, fast fashion, food waste, and the use of public transport. The students have written some powerful introductions that definitely hook the reader in. They have also been using the TEEL method to form their arguments. The students are enjoying practising all of the persuasive devices!
The students have been participating in activities during the “Bullying, No Way!” week. We have been learning about acts of kindness and the ripple they can make. 4AD went around the school doing small acts of kindness like making cards, flowers out of pipe cleaners and offering cleaning services to other classes. At Carlsruhe, they practised showing acts of kindness by being inclusive and involving others.
In Maths we have delved into our Division Unit and the students have been learning different strategies for working out division. The students are having a great time making connections to their multiplication facts.
All of the chickens have been officially assigned their names and new signs have been made for display. They are still very hard to tell apart, but some students are getting better at distinguishing between them!
Coconut our new little guinea pig is settling in well and is growing bigger by the day!
