A Snapshot into Writing

Learning Experience Overview:

In Writing, we are exploring our Big Idea “My school is a community that has changed overtime because of us.” Over the course of the term, students unpack the Big Idea through various learning experiences, such as in our Writing. This week, we have been focusing on responding to picture prompts to give us ideas.

What students were asked to do:

Students responded to a picture prompt by looking carefully at two photos of the school courts and identifying what they could see and what had changed. Students chose one change they noticed and wrote a sentence, ensuring their writing was linked to the prompt. They used a checklist to make sure that their writing included the features of a sentence.

What you can do now to continue the learning at home from this experience:

  • Your child will bring home their work sample and checklist. Discuss with them what has changed in our school.
  • Encourage your child to read their sentence back to you and check that it makes sense.
  • Practise using photos, pictures or books as prompts for your child to talk about what they see, think and feel.
  • When writing, practise using a capital letter, spaces between words and a full stop.
