After a narrow loss to Aurora in the First Division semi-final, our team was placed into the Second Division to continue our journey to the finals. On Tuesday, 2nd September, the McCarthy Chess representative team faced Inverell High School. Led by Jackson Medlock, with Khang (Charlie) Nguyen, Izayah Simmonds and Tobias Porter, the McCarthy team defeated Inverell High School with two wins, a draw and a loss. This means on 12th September, the McCarthy chess players will be heading to Armidale to play the next round against Holy Trinity School and TAS. On the same day, the second round of the Armidale Invitational Games will be played against O'Connor Catholic College and NEGS.
On Thursday, 4th September, the McCarthy Catholic College Chess team played the final round of the Calrossy-McCarthy Cup. With the 2025 series locked at one round all, this was a must win for the school. The day saw a dominant performance by all our players, with McCarthy taking the day and the series. These games were a chance for next year's potential representative players to showcase their skills. It is pleasing to see the depth of skill within the club.
Thanks to Calrossy for hosting the game. Our team looks forward to meeting them again in Term 4, for in the Sarah Sommerlad Shield.
