With Term 3 rapidly coming to an end, it was time for the election of new Environmental Council Executive Members. I would like to thank the current Executive Team for doing an excellent job in expanding the 10c Earn and Return Program. Thank you Charlette Lyon (President), Lauren Barnes (Vice President), Shania Coppola-Smith (Secretary), Summer Wenborn (Treasurer), and Baylee Whitworth (Communications Officer).

It gives me great pleasure to introduce the new Environment Executive Council for 2026. The new President will be Matt Manzano, Nicole Kiriamatu will be the Vice President, Anita Nguyen as Secretary, James Bonarius as Treasurer and Sonia Chin as Communications Officer.

(From Left to Right: James Bonarius, Charlette Lyon, Mr Nichols, Matt Manzano, Nicole Kiriamatu, Anita Nguyen and Sonia Chin).

With Spring arriving, members of the Environmental Council have been busy with the planting of new seed beds for seedling germination, transfer of seedlings and replacing plants along the Tribe and Johnston Streets boundary.

Paper from school recycling is shredded, then used in the base of pots and to suppress the weeds. The shredded paper is also used as the base for the mulch with saw dust, that goes around each of the plants.

The 10c Earn and Return project has been slowly gathering momentum. The school has now been provided with four 240L bins to fill. The table below shows our recent progress, with a further collection of containers  on the 23rd of August.

Through this program, not only are we helping the environment but the money raised is supporting a range of Good Works projects within our local community. Thank you to all those who have been making the effort to place their Earn and Return containers into the recycle and 10c bins. I urge more of our community to actively support this cause.

The Environmental Council is looking for more volunteers. If you want to make a difference, I invite you to join the Environmental Council. Meetings are every Thursday, second break. There are a wide variety of programs people can join.
