Walk the Land, Taste the First Nations Culture
Our students joined other local schools On Country at Moore Creek Caves Reserve for a day of learning and connection. From tasting bush tucker and planting trees to exploring how Aboriginal knowledge is deeply rooted in Caring for Country, every activity was hands-on, engaging, and full of meaning.
The students were great ambassadors of the school as they contributed 100% to each of the activities. On the day, they were able to explore Moore Creek and obtain water samples to examine the small organisms which inhabit the creek. They managed to plant a number of native trees, especially plants which are a major source of local Bush Tucker. Many of the students went on search and destroy missions in an attempt to remove the tiger pear.
The day was also a chance for the Landcare group to receive more shredded paper, which the school provides. The organiser was keen to show the positive impact that the paper has. All the paper which is collected in the school recycle bins end up supporting such projects.
The cultural acknowledgments and storytelling throughout the day were a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility to respect and protect the land, ensuring her beauty and resources are preserved for generations to come.
Thank you to Kate from Tamworth Regional Landcare Association, along with Wezz, Jock, Uncle Len, Paul, and the whole team, for sharing your knowledge, passion, and care to make this experience possible.
