A Magical Trip to Oz!

Our Year 5 students were recently invited to South Oakleigh Secondary College to watch their wonderful production of The Wizard of Oz. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience live theatre and see the creativity, talent, and hard work of secondary school students come together on stage.Our Year 5s were captivated by the performance. They enjoyed plenty of laughter, music, and magical moments throughout the show, while also getting a glimpse into what theatre and performing arts can look like in secondary school.It was a lovely experience for our students to connect with our local secondary school community and be inspired by the performers. They also got very excited when they saw a familiar face who were operating the lights – Gio! He was our captain last year when he was in Year 6. Who knows, perhaps some of our Year 5s will one day be the ones taking to the stage or maybe help with the behind-the-scenes too!

Celebrating the Magic of Books

Throughout Book Week, students had opportunities to celebrate their favourite stories, characters, and authors while reflecting on how books can transport us to different worlds, introduce us to new perspectives, and inspire our own ideas.One particularly exciting moment was during our online workshop with ARIA Award-winning Australian singer and songwriter Josh Pyke, where Saarah, one of our Year 6 students and captains, had the special opportunity to read out a question to Josh. The excitement in the room was infectious as soon as the students realised that their very own classmate was speaking to the author! There were plenty of smiles, cheers, and proud moments as everyone watched her represent our school. 

Learning, Caring and Getting Involved

What started as a responsibility has quickly become something the students across year levels genuinely look forward to! Our students have been enjoying spending time with the chickens and have even discovered some fun tricks and ways to interact with them. It has been wonderful to see our students building confidence, responsibility, and care for animals while learning from one another. The Environment Captains have shown great leadership by creating opportunities for others to participate, and we are so proud to see our students developing a stronger sense of connection and responsibility towards our school environment.

Project Rockit, Standing Up Against Bullying!

A key message from the Project Rockit incursion was the difference between being a bystander and an upstander. Students learned that simply watching bullying happen without doing anything is not enough. Instead, they were encouraged to think about safe and appropriate ways they can become upstanders, whether that means supporting the person being targeted, speaking up when it is safe to do so, including others, or seeking help from a trusted adult.

The session encouraged our students to think about the impact their choices can have on others and the responsibility we all share in looking after one another. It was wonderful to see students engaging with the scenarios, reflecting on their own actions, and building practical strategies for responding to difficult situations with courage, empathy, and respect.

Go Public!

Our Year 5/6 students have been thoroughly enjoying their learning across Reading, Maths, Writing, and Inquiry. It has been wonderful to see their curiosity, creativity, and growing confidence as they explore new concepts, tackle challenges, and develop their skills across each learning area. Next Thursday, 17 September, they will have the opportunity to share and celebrate their learning during our Go Public event. Students will showcase their work and talk about the learning they have been doing throughout the term. We warmly invite parents and families to join us from 2:30pm onwards to see what our Year 5/6 learners have been working on. We can’t wait to see our students proudly sharing their achievements with our school community!
