R U Ok Day - Thursday 10th of September.

This week, students and teachers at Clayton North have been actively participating in R U Ok activities.

At this week's assembly, students learned about the 4 steps to asking if someone is okay?

  1. Ask - R U OK? Choose a time or place where you think someone might be more likely to share.

  2. Listen - don't interrupt or rush, don't judge but acknowledge their feelings.

  3. Encourage Action - ask them what they have tried this time, or in the past. Encourage them to think of something that might help.

  4. Check in - remember to check in again soon to show that you care and are following up.

Student activities included creating bunting and the 'key' to being a good friend.

Engaging in RUOK? Day activities goes beyond the classroom; it's a commitment to our students' overall development. By talking openly about mental health, schools create safe spaces where students feel understood, valued, and supported. As parents and caregivers, you can contribute by fostering open conversations, normalising feelings and breaking down mental health stigmas.

This special report provides guidance on how to talk to your child about mental health and engage in meaningful discussions.

Students at assembly are acknowledged each week for displaying the school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.

It has been great to see Primrose, Wilma, Manda and Vivaan upholding these values in a variety of settings in the last two weeks. Well done to all students who have had their name added to the RRR Jar - your efforts are noticed and valued.

RRRR - Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships.

Across all year levels of the school, students have been completing  wellbeing lessons each week following the  RRRR curriculum provided by the Department of Education. This term our topics have been related to:

  • Stress Management - what can we do when we feel stressed, what stress might feel like and how to calm ourselves in times of stress.

  • Help Seeking - who we can ask for help, when you need to seek help, what people can do to help each other.

Lunchtime Clubs

Over the last few weeks we have focussed on our colouring, origami, beading, plants and science play. Students have demonstrated excellent responsibility and respect for the Wellbeing Hub by staying to tidy up any mess they have created.

We are happy to pass many of our Rocket, Snow Pea and Sweet Corn seedlings on to Chris and the Gardening team for their Monday Club.

Student Representative Committee (SRC)

The SRC have been meeting fortnightly to act as the 'Student Voice' of the school.

Most recently they have been collecting suggestions from their classes about Term 4 Lunchtime Clubs and any areas for improvement around the school.

Importance of Connection

Strong, supportive connections play an important role in a young person's mental health, wellbeing and development. Feeling connected to family, friends, school and community can provide children and adolescents with a sense of belonging, security and acceptance, helping them feel valued and supported as they grow.

As young people navigate friendships, increasing independence, social pressures and the digital world, maintaining meaningful connections can sometimes become more challenging. Positive relationships and a strong sense of belonging can help protect against loneliness and isolation, while building resilience, confidence and emotional wellbeing.

This edition of School TV explores the importance of connection and offers practical strategies to help strengthen relationships, foster belonging and ensure young people feel supported, understood and connected.
