In Year 6...

Year 6 students have been exploring the wonderful world of poetry. They have investigated the structures and language features of haikus, cinquains, quatrains and limericks, learning how poets use syllables, rhythm, rhyme and descriptive language to engage their audience. Students have enjoyed experimenting with words and expressing their ideas creatively through a variety of poetic forms. They also had lots of fun writing their own parodies inspired by well-known songs, carefully changing the lyrics to create new and entertaining versions while maintaining the rhythm of the originals.

Limericks

There once was a boy named Julian

Who had a super brain like an alien

He called himself smart

They said he had a big heart

And everyone says he’s one in a trillion

There once was a boy named Yusuf

Who wanted to be really tough

One day he broke his arm

And stayed extremely calm

But never stopped doing cool stuff

Quatrain

It’s annoying waking up early for school

It just feels Oh so cruel

In maths I get so mad

When it’s hometime I feel glad

Cinquain

Dragon

Scaly, fire breathing,

Flying, hiding, hunting

Terrifyingly unstoppable

Monster

Haiku

Bright sun warms my face

Children laugh across the yard

Summer days are here

Parody

Lazy (To Baby by Justin Bieber)

Oh, woah.

Oh, woah.

Oh, woah.

You know I love sleep, I know you care.

Just set an alarm, and I'll stay there.

My soft pajamas, they rule my heart.

And me and my bed will never part.

Are we getting up Man, quit playin'.

Go touch some grass, what are you sayin

You said "Get a job," and looked right in my eyes.

My cozy blanket kept me warm for the first time, and I was like.

Lazy, lazy, lazy, oh

Like lazy, lazy, lazy, no

Like lazy, lazy, lazy, oh

I thought I'd always just lie around

Lazy, lazy, lazy, oh

Like lazy, lazy, lazy, no

Like lazy, lazy, lazy, oh
