🧪 SciTech Update – Week 5

It's been another exciting few weeks in SciTech as students have continued to investigate the fascinating world of Biology through research, design and creative problem-solving.

🦖 Years 3 & 4 – Museum of Natural History

Our Year 3 and 4 students have been investigating once-living organisms, with a particular focus on dinosaurs and other extinct animals. Acting as museum curators, students have researched where these incredible creatures lived, what they ate, how they were adapted to survive and why many eventually became extinct.

Using this knowledge, students have now begun constructing their own Museum of Natural History in Minecraft Education. Working collaboratively, they are designing exhibition halls, planning interactive displays and creating museum spaces that will educate and inspire future visitors. It has been wonderful to see students applying their scientific knowledge while developing their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

🌍 Years 5 & 6 – Designing a Zoo for the Future

Our Year 5 and 6 students have continued their journey as Biome Explorers, researching some of Earth's most remarkable environments, including oceans, rainforests and Australian ecosystems. Through documentaries, virtual investigations and scientific research, students have explored how climate, vegetation and geography influence the plants and animals that live within each biome.

This research is preparing students for an exciting design challenge later this term—creating a modern 21st-century zoo in Minecraft Education. Rather than simply building animal enclosures, students are learning how to design habitats that meet the physical, behavioural and environmental needs of animals from around the world. They are considering factors such as space, shelter, enrichment, climate and visitor experience to create zoo exhibits that prioritise both animal welfare and conservation.

⭐ Living Our School Values

Throughout every SciTech lesson, students continue to demonstrate our school values of Respect, Collaboration and Perseverance. Whether researching extinct animals, designing museum exhibits or planning future zoo habitats, students are showing curiosity, working together and embracing challenges as they develop their scientific understanding.
