LOOK WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING IN AUSLAN AT MPHPS

Hello everyone,

We’ve had a fabulous fortnight in the Auslan classroom. I’ve especially enjoyed watching students confidently practise the signs they’ve learned and show such enthusiasm for their learning.

SIGNS OF THE WEEK

Don’t forget to ask your child to show you some of the Auslan signs they have been learning. Over the past fortnight, we have been revising many of the signs that we have learnt to strengthen students’ confidence and recall.

Our Signs of the Week are ‘money’, ‘buy’, and 'price’ We encourage you to practise these at home together!

IN THE CLASSROOM

Year 3 – Students will consolidate their knowledge of the Auslan signs for the family, while focusing on learning signs related to emotions.

Year 4 – Students will continue to build their understanding of words and short sentences related to money, while expanding their knowledge of Auslan signs associated fruit.

Year 5 – Students will continue to strengthen their understanding of Auslan signs related to occupations, while developing their knowledge of signs associated countries.

Year 6 – Students will continue to consolidate their understanding of Auslan signs related to describing a famous person of their choice.

Deaf people generally have little interest in “cures” for deafness. They value their identity as Deaf people and see no value in becoming a different person.
