Hands On Learning

Well, a term has passed so quickly for us in the Hands-on Learning crew, we have had 9 students enjoy the different side to learning new skills.
First term was all about safety, what to wear, look out for people around your surroundings, know your safety rules for in a workshop, how to use hand tools safely, how to hammer a nail in straight and why it’s important to listen to instruction and take your time when measuring and cutting timber. “Measure twice, cut once.”
We have made a connection with Ben the Ranger from Brimbank Council. He is based at Yaluk Barring Park in Keilor Nth. We have helped created custom made portable water station that can be moved throughout the park, we also did a frog identification test as it was raining and lots of frogs were singing out.
We made planter boxes, filled them with potting mix, collected cuttings of succulent’s from around the school to put in them. We will look after them and maybe sell them later.
The students all had a go at using the lawn mower and painting our picket fence which is slowly coming together. Our veggie garden is ready for our winter crops, looking forward to planting it out term 2.
To end the term off the students, cook a BBQ lunch which we all enjoyed.
