I hope you are all doing well and have had a great start to Term 1!

It is great to see all our new and returning students around the library and the school. Please remember, if you’d like a book suggestion or to suggest a book to get into the library, I’d love to help and hear all your ideas.

How to loan resources at the library:

When you have your student card you will be able to scan and loan out directly but until then- you are able to log in manually using your student code:

At the self-loan kiosk in the library click: BORROW ITEMS / Manual Entry (or scan card)
Your name will come up in the top right-hand corner and then you'll be able to put the book down on the kiosk table and it will automatically loan it out to you- the title will then appear under your name.

Overdrive eBooks:

Our library subscribes to Overdrive, a service offering a great selection of both eBooks and eAudiobooks. Listening to eAudiobooks in particular is a great way to give your eyes a rest from the screen and have narrators tell a story.

EBSCO eBook Consortium (Academic and Education Consortium resources):

We now have access to the EBSCO eBook consortium - the Education and Academic collections.

The Education collection has a wide range of resources that are great for professional development and interest in Education. Please remember that we also have a complementary physical collection 'Learning and Teaching' for teacher reference at the library.

Students will find the Academic collection useful as this consortium will hold a broad range of resources to help in their research- mainly non-fiction eBooks.

Goodreads:

A good challenge and a fun way to enjoy your personal reading is to start up a GoodReads account! You can start tracking what you’ve read and even challenge yourself with the Goodreads personal annual reading challenge. There is no pressure and it is a fun way to track your personal reading, seeing your online bookshelf is a great wat to see what kind of books you really enjoy and what you read most of. This can lead you to trying new genres and even suggested reads from GoodReads.

The SLV and Public Libraries: Sign up today!

Signing up to the State Library Victoria (SLV) is a really helpful resource and beneficial for your research.

Signing up is free, can be done online and you will have access to all their databases and journals online.

Please remember that public libraries have fantastic online resources.

If you are already a member of your public library it is worth looking into what they can offer online and if you aren’t already a member you can sign up easily online to be a member and have immediate access to their online resources.

Their online resources often include:

eBooks and eAudiobooks, online magazine publications, subscriptions to services such as Linda.com and video streaming services.

Issues in Society:

We have the online .pdf versions of Issues in Society a very current and Australian focused publication which tackles interesting issues facing society in a graphic and easy to follow format with up to date statistics, illustrations and graphs. We also have the current issues in print at the library!

New Books at the library:

We have some great new books at the library, come up to have a look!

New books donated to the library- Great titles in STEM

We have been very fortunate to receive a donation of books from Sonya Pemberton and GenePool Productions.

These titles span a wide range of topics in STEM and include some really interesting titles. The resources here are all very topical and current so will be useful and up-to-date. Many of these have been used and consulted in research projects so are a curated collection.This is a large collection and I am still in the process of completing processing the resources but here are some of the first titles available to you now in the library.

Most of the titles will be available in the New Topics in STEM collection, I have included an image of where you can find the collection here.I hope you all come up to have a browse of these titles, I am sure you will find them incredibly interesting and inspiring especially when considering topics to look into more deeply for research and personal interest.A big thank you for this donation of titles, it has enriched our library collection.

February Resource Review: Teen Breathe

Our first review this year is on a magazine title so that new students can see some of the different collections that we have available.

Teen Breathe is a magazine targeted towards students wellbeing and mindfulness. Although the covers may look a little young , it is worth giving this magazine a browse as the content can be really interesting.

There are sections that can help with mindfulness practices and self-care. They also write articles which focus on issues and concerns directly related to life in school and during the transition from school to tertiary studies and life outside of school.

The magazine sometimes includes recipes and ideas for enjoying time for yourself.

Have a browse of this magazine and loan out physical copies from the library, you might be surprised at how this title promotes relaxation and self-awareness. With the responsibilities and commitments of the week you all deserve to take a moment to reconnect and recharge.
