Visual Arts

We are SO excited for everyone to see what we have been working on in visual arts. However, we can’t post photos in this newsletter today, because we are hoping to surprise everyone with our talents at the Tumbarumba Show this weekend! We can, however, let you know what skills we have been developing.

We started our term focusing on our beautiful eyes. Exploring their shapes and the array of colours our irises contain. We used paint to create multiple prints of our eyes, then came back and added colour with crayons.

Next, we extended our focus to the placement of our facial features. Did you know that our faces aren’t circles? Our eyes are actually halfway down our head, and our hair doesn’t just stick straight up out of the top of our head either!  When learning to draw, there are so many developmental stages we go through, and having a chance to stop and really explore our faces in detail was eye-opening for many of our students (pun intended!).

We have traced and drawn freehand, used whiteboards, paper, textas, paint, crayons and water colours, every experience helping us fine-tune our skills.  Artworks will be on display at the show, then in our hallway for everyone to enjoy next week.

Music

This year, All Saints’ has enlisted the support of Amplify Music to help support our current programming and advance our students through the curriculum. The children in K-2 look forward to learning with Ricky each week. The modern song choices and fabulous beats keep our students engaged. So far this term, we have explored beat, rhythm, tempo and pitch. We have really enjoyed exploring different instruments and learning the difference between tuned and untuned. Mrs Thomsen even pulled out some of the ‘big kid’ band instruments for a few good listeners to try and play. We are surrounded by sound, and there are so many ways to create it! So far, we have given every lesson 5 stars and have developed our critical thinking by giving a whole-class review of each lesson. Next week’s lesson is called ‘Thinking Out Loud’, so far, no one has guessed what it will be about. Be sure to check in with your child on Monday afternoon to find out what they learned.
