Geography – Caring for Australia’s Environments (Stage 2)

This term in Geography, students have been exploring how people care for and manage Australia’s diverse environments. They are learning that places across Australia are used for different purposes and that thoughtful decisions are required to ensure these environments are protected and sustained for the future. Through geographical inquiry, students are developing an understanding of conservation and sustainability, and how these ideas influence the way important spaces are managed.

As part of their learning, students have investigated real-world examples of protected areas, including: These case studies have helped students understand how national parks such as Mungo, Kosciuszko, Wollemi and Barrington Tops are carefully managed to balance environmental protection, recreation and cultural heritage. Students have also explored practical strategies that reduce waste and support the sustainable use of natural resources, helping to maintain healthy environments over time.
