Year 3

We hope everyone had a fantastic holiday break! We are feeling refreshed and ready for a big and fun Term 4 in Grade 3. We have lots of exciting learning and activities ahead of us, and we can’t wait to get started!

In Reading, we have started reading The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. We are looking forward to discovering more about Roz’s adventures and exploring the characters, setting and important messages in the story.

In Writing, we are becoming persuasive writers! Our teachers even took away our chairs, and we had to write a letter to persuade them to give them back! We had to share our opinions, give strong reasons and convince our teachers that we deserved our chairs. It was a fun way to practise our persuasive writing skills, and we hope our letters did the trick!

In Maths, we are exploring data and statistics, learning how to collect, organise and interpret information. We are also learning about fractions and discovering how we can split shapes and amounts into equal parts.

In Humanities, we are focusing on sustainability and learning all about reducing, reusing and recycling waste. We will investigate how rubbish affects our environment and discover ways we can all make a difference and help look after our planet.

We are excited for all the learning, teamwork and fun that Term 4 will bring. Let’s make it a wonderful final term of the year!

We are proud of all our students' efforts, positive mindsets and look forward to acknowledging and celebrating their accomplishments with them throughout these units.

Year 4

Our very last term as big grade 4’s and we have already started the term with a bang!

Reading:

In reading we are excited to be reading a new text, ‘The One and Only Ivan’. A book about a gorilla who lives in a domain situated in a mall. We will explore themes, questionings, predictions and many different perspectives of the author.

Writing:

In writing we have begun our persuasive unit and have been learning the art of persuasion. We have explored where persuasive techniques can be used in our everyday lives through advertisements and commercials, even in some of the books we read.

Maths:

In maths we are tackling money problems, how to calculate change and rounding to the nearest 5cents. We have started our measuring unit, learning how to convert metric units to smaller or bigger metric units – using powers of 10s.

Year 4 Camp.

Our biggest excursion came and went, and we were all very excited. We said goodbye to our family and some of our friends and enjoyed a nice bus ride to Golden Valleys Adventure camp.

We were amazed and eager to get settled in as we were allocated our cabins, some students said the cabins were their favourite part of camp.

Once we were all settled, we were able to do some activities. These activities were archery, zipline, low ropes, giant swing hut building, campfire, discos, roasting marshmallows…the list goes on.

Everyone looked like they had such a fun time and were enjoying themselves, especially watching all our friends performing.

Enjoy some pictures from our camping experience:

Year 5

The Grade 5’s have enjoyed a settled and positive return to Term 4, with students getting back into classroom routines and engaging enthusiastically in their learning. It has been wonderful to see students working together, building on their skills and making the most of our final term of the year.

In English, we are reading Blueback by Tim Winton, exploring the characters, themes and messages within the story. Students are also developing their persuasive writing skills, learning to construct strong arguments, support opinions with evidence and use persuasive language to influence their audience.

Year 6

This week we had the house colours splash day excursion.Years 3-9 students came with us and it was awesome!  We went on the inflatables, waterslides, and splashed in the splash park but unfortunately some grades did not have a turn because they closed it, pool noodle race, grass activities, and volleyball in the water. It was so fun and the weather was amazing.

It was really fun and we thank all of the teachers who helped run this day and make it happen and thank all the lifeguards for helping people.

This term instead of doing our Inter School Sports we are doing electives to get ready for next year as we are starting high school. Our options were Art, Sport, Minecraft, dance, and a stop motion video. Unfortunately, dance did not get enough people, so we had to add another sport elective.

We are in our second week and are enjoying it. In art we are making some decorations for our year six graduation and in sport we are trying out some new sports including A.F.L, Netball, basketball, rugby, and soccer. In Minecraft we are designing our sustainable city’s. This is not all we are also starting our stop motion animations.

Every Fortnight Mrs. Gillis comes and teaches us new things as we are going in to grade 7. Last week Mrs. Gillis and 5 other year 7 students came with her, and they showed us the lockers and how to set them up and use them. It was interesting how everyone set it up.

We have started our new topics for this term, we have been reading our new novel, 'Can You See Me'. In writing, we have been learning to persuade. In math, we are practicing measuring angles and looking at financial mathematics. In science, we have started to learn about the solar system and during humanities we have been exploring climate hazards and the effect they have on communities.
