The Prep Team would like to extend a huge thank you to the families of the following students: Lucas Beaven 5B, Arlen PC, Ezra PB, Ozkar PA, Elijah PC, Uthman PC, Kairo PC and Keda PC for their generous donations and support. Thanks to their generosity, we have been able to begin Phase One of our outdoor garden project.
We have planted a selection of Australian native plants and, throughout the term, students will have the opportunity to learn the Indigenous names of the plants, as well as their traditional uses and significance. We hope to create fact sheets to share our learning and discoveries with the wider school community.
This new outdoor learning space will provide students with a wonderful opportunity to take their learning outside, while connecting with nature in a calm and inviting environment. We are excited to watch the garden grow alongside our students' knowledge and appreciation of Australian native plants.

The Prep Team
What a busy start to Term 4! In Reading, we have been practising our letter sounds and learning about digraphs, where two letters work together to make one sound, such as oo in moon and ew in flew. These help us sound out and blend words.

In Writing, we have been exploring persuasive writing through the book Dear Broccoli by Jo Dabrowski. We have loved reading the letters that go back and forth between Frank and Broccoli. We noticed how differently they write: Frank is short and snappy, while Broccoli is very polite and proper!

In Maths, we have been learning about addition and subtraction and the different strategies we can use to solve problems. So far, we have explored doubles, friends of ten, bridging through ten and the split strategy. Ask your child to show you how they use one of these strategies at home!

The Year 1 Teachers
Wow! We are now in Term 4. The Year 2 teachers have loved welcoming back all the smiling faces ready for another amazing term of learning. There was much excitement as students connected with friends again after the break and shared their stories.
In Literacy we are exploring the familiar fairytale The Three little Pigs and the fractured fairytale, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by A. Wolf (written by Jon Scieszka), which is from an alternative viewpoint compared to the traditional telling. Together we have had many interesting discussions about how characters can see the same events in different ways. We have begun writing to persuade others using the techniques of using emotive language, rhetorical questions, exaggeration and text evidence to support our views.

In Maths this term we are exploring multiplication and division. We are looking at arrays and using the language of rows and columns to describe what we see. We will record related facts for these arrays.

Be on the lookout for arrays that can be found around your home, at the shops or when in the great outdoors.
We can’t wait for the Year 2 Sleepover and Legoland excursion which are special events later this term. They will be so much fun!
