Celebrating Lunar New Year Together
As part of our new “On Wednesdays We…” initiative, the Boarding House recently gathered to celebrate Lunar New Year, an evening of learning, culture, and shared celebration. The session was thoughtfully led by our International Leader, Allyson Ko, who guided the girls through the traditions and significance of the festival.
Boarders enjoyed trying their hand at calligraphy using traditional ink, carefully creating characters that now proudly decorate many bedroom doors throughout the house. The girls also sampled a range of Chinese snacks, some familiar and others entirely new, which sparked plenty of curiosity and conversation. Throughout the evening, Allyson shared short videos and explanations of Lunar New Year customs, helping the girls understand the meaning behind many of the traditions observed across Asia at this special time of year.
Celebrations had begun a few days earlier with a wonderful Lunar New Year feast prepared by our talented chefs, Megan and Emma. The girls enjoyed a delicious spread of Chinese dishes, which set the tone for the week’s festivities.
Evenings like this provide a meaningful opportunity to deepen the cultural richness of our Boarding community. It was a joyful celebration of inclusion, curiosity, and learning together as a house.
