Lent and Ramadan Align in 2026
This year, something truly uncommon is happening as the Christian season of Lent and the Islamic holy month of Ramadan are unfolding at the same time.
In 2026, both Lent, which began with Ash Wednesday on 18 February, and Ramadan, which began on 19 February align in a way that only happens very rarely.
This overlap is unusual because the two faiths use different calendars: the Christian liturgical year follows the solar-based Gregorian calendar (with dates for Lent tied to Easter), while Islam’s calendar is lunar. This rare synchronisation of fasting periods won’t be seen again for many years.
Beyond its rarity, this moment offers a beautiful chance for solidarity and mutual respect. Both Lent and Ramadan are seasons of prayer, self-discipline, reflection, and compassion for others. While the practices are rooted in distinct traditions, the shared focus on caring for the less fortunate and deepening one’s spiritual life brings believers across traditions into a kind of spiritual companionship.
Observing these seasons together can deepen understanding, enrich dialogue, and remind us that, even in our differences, there are powerful common threads of faith, hope, and love.
Loreto chapel Masses for 2026 started in Week 5, beginning with Year 12. During this Mass, our Year 12 students came together in a heartfelt celebration of the women who shape, inspire, and sustain our community.
Fr Chris Jenkins SJ gave thanks for the countless ways women contribute; as mothers, daughters, sisters, leaders, caregivers, and friends. Readings and prayers were chosen to highlight the strength, grace, and wisdom that women bring to every corner of our shared life.
We are deeply grateful to all who participated, helped organise, and offered their prayers for this special celebration. May it serve as a reminder that every woman in our community is seen, valued, and cherished.
Student leadership Conference
High school students from across Adelaide attended the Secondary Youth Leadership Conference, an experience designed to ignite the next generation of leaders.
Through engaging keynotes, interactive activities, and reflective sessions, students will embark on a journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and leadership development. They cultivated a powerful sense of personal agency and self-leadership and gained skills for success in school, work, and life.
Our students heard from accomplished local speakers who have triumphed over adversity, including the CEO of the Adelaide Fringe, Heather Croall, and Co Founder of Project Rockit Lucy Thomas, two outstanding changemakers with powerful stories to share.

Junior School Leadership Liturgy
On Monday 9 February, the Junior School held a Leadership Liturgy for all newly appointed leaders. In Year 6, five girls from each house received their badges for the following positions: House Captain, Performing Arts Captain, Sports Captain, Social Justice Captain, and Prayer & Liturgy Captain.
Across the College, there were also Prayer Leaders from Year 1 through to Year 5, as well as Student Representative Council members appointed from Year 1 to Year 6. It was a wonderful opportunity to witness the leadership across the Junior School, with many parents and family members in attendance. We congratulate and wish our girls every success as they lead the school in 2026.
