Hello from 1S

Our Year 1 students have been busy exploring the fascinating world of minibeasts this term in Science! So far, we have investigated ladybugs, snails, and butterflies, discovering where they live, what they eat, and the unique features that help them survive.

Throughout the unit, students have enthusiastically shared their learning through informative slides, labelled diagrams, colourful mind maps, and creative craft activities. It has been wonderful to see students extend their learning beyond the classroom by photographing minibeasts they discover at home or outdoors and bringing their photos in to add to our growing classroom display. Many students have also enjoyed sharing books about minibeasts with the class, helping us learn even more amazing facts about these incredible creatures. These hands-on experiences have encouraged curiosity while helping students build their scientific knowledge and vocabulary.

“My favourite minibeast is a ladybug because the red colour on them is really pretty.”

“My favourite minibeast is a butterfly because they have big pretty wings.”

“My favourite minibeast is a snail because I like how they can regrow part of their shells when the get broken.”

The excitement is continuing to grow as we prepare for our upcoming Minibeast Incursion and continue learning about new minibeasts each week. Students will have the opportunity to see a variety of live minibeasts up close, deepen their understanding through interactive experiences, and apply everything they have learned in the classroom. We can't wait to see their excitement as they become real-life minibeast experts!
